Horizontal bores and drains are crucial infrastructures for maintaining the stability of large open-pit mines. Induced deformations as result mining activities infiltration water from surface catchments during heavy rain events can cause build-up pore pressures in brown coal batters. This potentially lead to catastrophic slope failures. boreholes commonly installed at shallow inclines typically range length 150 400 metres.
